Newborn

The first twelve weeks in Singapore: feeding, sleep, your own recovery, and the paperwork nobody warns you about.

The first twelve weeks are mostly feeding and sleeping, in that order. Almost everything else can wait. If you want one place to start, our complete newborn guide covers the whole stage.

Two things don’t wait. Register the birth within 42 days: it is a legal requirement in Singapore, done through LifeSG for S$18 as of July 2026. And treat your own recovery as seriously as the baby’s, because it is the part visitors forget to ask about.

Most of what sends a new parent searching at 3am turns out to be normal. Not all of it, so each guide below says what to watch for and when to call a doctor. We have grouped them by what parents actually ask at this stage, feeding first.

Feeding: is my baby getting enough?

The question behind most newborn worries. Latch, supply, and how to tell a growth spurt from a problem.

Is my baby OK?

Weight, jaundice, reflux, vision and the immunisation schedule: what is expected in the first weeks, and what warrants a call.

Registration, insurance and leave

The admin that lands while you are sleep-deprived. Birth registration is the one with a deadline.

Day-to-day care

Holding, swaddling, nappies, sleep, and the practicalities of getting out of the house in Singapore's heat.

Looking after yourself

Confinement, C-section recovery and postpartum depression. Half this stage is about the mother, and it gets asked about least.

What you actually need
