A Special Anniversary Edition

This fifth edition of the Biennale coincides with two significant milestones—National Gallery Singapore’s 10th anniversary and Singapore’s SG60 celebrations. The event reinforces the Gallery’s commitment to nurturing creativity and imagination in the next generation as we look toward building a brighter future together.

“Tomorrow, We’ll Be…”: Imagining a Better World

The theme “Tomorrow, We’ll Be…” encourages children to dream boldly about the future they want to create. Through art and interactive play, young visitors explore four core values that shape this vision:

  • Joy – Finding happiness in creativity and expression
  • Kindness – Learning empathy through collaborative art
  • Love – Building connections with others and our environment
  • Dream – Imagining possibilities without limits

These values aren’t just abstract concepts—they’re brought to life through hands-on experiences designed to spark meaningful conversations between children and adults.

Eight Stunning Installations by Local and International Artists

The Biennale features eight carefully crafted installations by artists from Singapore and across Asia:

1. Dance Dance Chromatics (Singapore)

Singaporean artist Wyn-Lyn Tan transforms movement into art with this digital canvas that responds to children’s actions. As kids move and dance, their movements create colourful digital “paintings” on a seamless canvas—teaching them how art can be created through joy and physical expression.

2. Words of Kindness (Japan/Australia)

Japanese artist Hiromi Tango’s installation features large-scale, vibrant flowers with a thoughtful twist—petals carrying words of kindness engraved in Braille. This multi-sensory experience helps children understand different ways of perceiving the world while learning the value of kind words.

3. Collaborative Creations

Artists Souliya Phoumivong (Laos), Co2_karbondioksida (Malaysia), and Vicente Delgado (Spain/Singapore) bring their unique cultural perspectives to installations that invite children to participate actively in the creative process, fostering a sense of ownership and pride in collective art-making.

First-Ever Fully Baby-Friendly Biennale

For the first time in the event’s history, all eight installations have been thoughtfully designed to welcome even the youngest visitors. Babies can safely explore textures, colours, sounds, and movements in spaces created with their developmental needs in mind. This inclusive approach ensures the entire family can enjoy the art experience together—no need to leave anyone at home!

Why Art Matters for Children

Research shows that early exposure to art helps children develop critical thinking skills, emotional intelligence, and creative problem-solving abilities. The Gallery Children’s Biennale transforms these benefits into playful experiences that children naturally gravitate toward.

When children engage with art installations that respond to their actions, they learn about cause and effect. When they create alongside other children, they develop social skills. When they interpret artworks, they practice critical thinking. All these valuable skills develop while they’re simply having fun.
